Default S&S 98" big bore kit

Hey guys,

About to order a big bore kit for my 2004 FXSTI. It currently has Freedom Performance Exhaust Sharp Curve Radius Exhaust, a Big Sucker Air Filter, and a Power Commander. Has anyone used this before? I think it just came out in 2014. I'm looking to use their gear driven 510 cams as well (i'm going to have my shop check out the crankshaft run out before I order those). Just looking for some feedback. S&S claims that that with the 98" kit and the 510 cams they get 100 hp and 108 ft/lbs of torque.

Should I look at upgrading from the power commander to something newer?

Thanks

i read comments of the tiny sound the gear gam makes.. maybe like a sewing machine..
i like it..

yea that won't bother me. I know I won't get the most out of it because I don't have a 2 into 1 exhaust anymore, but I'm not looking for this to be a drag bike or a dyno queen. I just want a healthy upgrade in power over the stock 88" motor.

Keep us updated. I'm planning to go with the same kit sometime before summer. Hoping it's something I can take on myself, rather than have to take it to a shop.

I went through Hillside Performance for my 98" kit. Have not had it dynoed, but it runs fantastic. Save yourself some $$$ and do it yourself.

The kit is only 900 something dollars, I rather just spend that money. Plus, I just had surgery for a torn pectoral (tore the tendon right off the bone) a month ago so I'm not going to be doing any wrenching anytime soon.

I think I'll pull the trigger on this tonight.

Ok I'm set on the 98" kit from SS.

Now just trying to decide the cams. I was set to go with the 510 from S&S, but have been reading a lot about Woods and Andrews cams.

The type of riding I do is just general cruising on the highway and back roads, don't ride much in cities. Never ride 2 up.

Thanks in advance.

What is the compression ratio on that kit? That will help determine the cam you should use.

to me, coming from "the land of the not knowing", your inquiry's raises all kinds of mysteries in my brain... Like, compression vs; cam size?
Guessing that different size cams, how ever minute, will change the overall volume in the cylinder head space.
Is this the reason for your question?

May I suggest......Talk to a well trained and informed tuner guy, you know, a dyno guy? Tell him what you are looking at doing and he will steer you in the right direction. I strongly suggest getting head work done while its off. That may change the cam you want to use and your tuner. JMHO, but to go that far and doing no head work is a sin. Flowed, ported and polished and possibly bigger valves too. I cant stress that enough.

EDIT: Mine was born a lil 88 ci too. I have the 95" kit and im pushing 100/100 on mine and that's with these cholos on it to rather than my Python 2 in 1. Not to shabby!!!
