Default Should I Rinse out my gas tank?

Hey boys. When I got my gas tank back from the paint shop I looked in it and there was a light coating of dust inside it. I can only assume it is dust from the sanding they did during the paint process.

I thought about rinsing it out before putting the internals back into it..... But I didn't do that.

Instead I stuck my hand through the opening on the top of the tsnk were the fuel pump plate attaches and used a shop rag to wipe down the walls of the tank the best I could.
I was able to get to the front half of the tank pretty good but the back half was impossible to get too cause. My big stupid hands wouldnt fit all the way in lolol

I just read on another thread that someone had to have their fuel pump replaced cause the inside of the tank was contaminated pretty bad by the paint shop while they were doing paint work.

Now I'm second guessing myself about not rinsing the inside of the tank.

Someone got any opinions ? Or someone want to talk me off the ledge as far as going back and disassembling the tank and rinsing it?

It would be best if you did flush out the tank as you don't want to contaminate your fuel filter, fuel pump or fuel injectors/Jets. It is a PITA but it needs to be done.

What are the pros/cons for flushing the tank?
What are the pros/cons for not flushing the tank?

Your tank, fuel system, engine,... Your decision.

**** it I'll do it. Got nothing better to do since I still don't have fenders for this thing.

After I take all the Internals out can I use water to do it or should I use gas ?

I don't think using water would do any damage as long as I remove all the internals but just want to make sure.

A good paint shop would have made sure that was part of the prep work.

Makes me wonder what other steps they skipped...

I hear you on that. To be quite honest with you I think they did wash out the inside cause I just took it apart again to rinse it and all the water that came out was pretty damn clean. What I though was dust might just be the way the I side of the tank looks.

Gonna wipe it with some paper towels the best I can and let it sit overnight to air dry.

Tried using a hair dryer to get in there but can't fit it.

I'll put it back together tomorrow. I'm glad I did it, gives me piece of mind. The rubber gasket and new screws ony ran me $15.

Where the hell are those fenders? "We" have been waiting on the fenders for over a week now. You need to ride as the weather is looking better and we need pics. The tins painted so far look fantastic next to the blue frame.

Gas tanks hold gas. Why'd you want to rinse it with water?
