Thinking about getting a breakout - opinions please
Saw a 3" lowered black HD FXSB Softail Breakout CVO with 240 rear tires with stage 1 AC and V&H pipes.....beautiful. The 240 rear is stock. So thinking about selling my custom sportster bagger and getting a breakout CVO and doing similar mods.
Sportsters are easy to install mods, repair and maintain. Is it difficult to do your own mods, repairs and maintenance on the breakout? Is the softail breakout solid mechanically? Did HD change anything major? For the sporty, 2014 -2016 changed dramatically so things are not interchangeable with earlier models.
Any factual info is greatly appreciated...thanks.

Dude sweet sportster! Softails in general are pretty reliable and you won't see many complaints here. Go take a test ride on one. Continue to do research and I am sure you find the softail breakout is the coolest chopper styled cruiser on the road. Good luck and let us know what you end up with

I love mine. I've had dozens of bikes over the years, but this is my first Harley. I was always against Harleys due to the outrageous prices....I just couldn't see spending $20k and up for a motorcycle. That said, I did just that, and I couldn't be happier. Yes, it's a lot of money, but you really do get a lot of bike. Years ago Harleys were nortoriously problematic, but the newer bikes are just as reliable as any other bike out there.
I saw the BO and it was love at first sight. After riding one, I was even more impressed. I have only had mine a year, but very happy so far.
Like any bike, you need to get a bike for the riding you do. If you want to do a cross county trip, then the BO likely isn't your best choice. But for around town cruising, short trips, and in general just a fun bike to ride, I like the Breakout.

I loved the look of the '13, paint, chrome wheels, but not the the 16/17 CVO.
The picture above looks good except for the flames on the tank, even if paint and not a decal. It would look better with just the Hard Candy paint and a painted HD emblem.
But i do like the BO style, for a local cruiser.

Sorry, forgot to address your other questions: There are some things that are, of course, model year specific, but a lot crosses over from year to year. There is also a lot of softail stuff that may fit the BO, even though the application isn't BO specific. There are quite a few threads on that topic here. The best is the "Everything Breakout" thread. About 500 pages of Breakout stuff. There are some guys on here that are BO gurus, and have done tons of mods and upgrades. Spend a few days going through the threads and you'll find just about anything you'll have questions about.
As for maintenance, I've had no issues at all. Oil changes are easy, and all the mods I've made were pretty straightforward. I highly recommend getting a factory service manual. They are $60 or so from the dealer. You never know when it'll come in handy.
Hope this helps.
