Default I think I got water in the engine....

Okay, before I start this, don't anybody call me a dumba$$....I've already done it enough times already...I just need some help/advice.

As you can see by my picture, I run an open air filter and I was led to believe that if I got caught in the rain, I would be okay. WRONG!!!! lol I got caught in the rain this this morning and now the bike is running like crap!! I took the air filter off and made sure it was dry and cleaned everything off. Sometimes the bike starts and sometimes it doesn't...when it does, it'll sit there and idel for about 3 or 4 minutes and then die. When I got caught in the rain, I was headed to an appt. By the time I finished with the appt, it had stopped raining. I finally got the bike started and headed home. While going home, it died twice....

Anyway, how do I fix this? Do I just let it burn the water out? Do I have to go into the engine? Any help would be appreciated.

Tim

I use to race 4 wheel drives and we would get water in the engine from time to time. Water does not compress! You can easily blow your engine with enough water. With any luck, you may have just ruined your spark plugs. Take a look at them, hopefully thats your problem. If not, you may have bent a valve.

Good luck!

pull out the spark plugs and crank the motor for a few seconds........see if any water comes out

all engines i have seen that have ingested H20, well, they hydro-locked because water is not compressable

Just talked to the dealer (don't laugh) and he suggested...

1. Let your filter dry...it's probably still wet.
2. Pull your plugs and crank it a couple of times.

I pull the plugs, which are black, and turned it over a few times...no water came out. Put the plugs back in and it didn't turn over...just turned. Now I have the filter off and am gonna let it dry.

Any other suggestions?

I am looking at your sig pic and notice you don't have anything covering the outer part of your a/c. Are there any holes in the a/c that would allow water in? I run an open a/c, but have the football insert over it. I have had no problems in heavy rain.

Also, another thing the insert may do is help get a good seal around the edge of the a/c and back plate. Just a thought.

Its possible that if any water did get in that its messed up the MAP and or air temp sensors, at least till things dry out some. Give it a day to air dry, don't try blowing things out, then try starting it without the filter on. If it starts and seems to idle OK, fine, just don't let it run too long that way. The idea is to make sure things are working properly again. You don't want to run around like that as without the filter its going to let all kinds of crap in and left too long it maystart to heat up more than usual from getting too much air and running abit too lean.

Thanks for all the help.

All the holes on the a/c are filled it. There are 3 screws that hold it on and then the one hole where the football is held on to, but I have the screw in that, so it's plugged.

Okay...I'll let it sit for a while...really have no choice right now...it's raining again.

Thanks!!
