Default Solo seat / backrest

I have an 06 Heritage. I want to put a riderbackrest on. HD says I have to buy a new seat to have a backrest. Well thats just crazy in my veiw. I like the original seat. It fits my *** just right.
Here is what I want, take the pillion off and install a backrest and put a bib on the rear fender. Am I asking for too much ? If I have to drill a couple of holes for the backrest mount I will. I want to do this for less than $200.00.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was looking at these before looking at the mustang seat ,what I was not sure of was the seat bracket.
It looks as if it could bend under pressure and it is not adjustable other than this it looks very good.

I checked it out but it says not for a classic. What is the difference?

I had one on my 2005 FLSTC for about 6 months until I got the Mustang setup. They do make one for the classic, but you must have the rear seat on for support for the back rest.

I hear ya... I also want a riders backrest but haven't found one yet I like or one that will work. Only reason I haven't bought the firehouse one yet is I heard that it pushes you forward an inch which I am not wanting. So I wonder if it can be modified to keep me back? Another option is for me to make my own of course. TGBroom, plz post your review of that backrest.

I had the Firehouse for a while. At first I hated it. Felt like someone had they're knee in my lowerback. All my shoulder pain was gone though.I took it off after a week and did a couple rides without it and the shoulder pain returned immediately, so I put it back on and eventually got use to it. The other reason I didn't like it was because it pushed me forward about an inch or so and that put that little tender spot between the jewels and bunghole up on the horn of the stock seat. Well, after about 2 hours of steady riding...the pain starts and steadily goes down hill the rest of the day.

I decided to spend the money on the Mustang wide studded with back rest and 14" passenger seat. For some of us (especially me) that is alot of money ($731.00 shipped) to drop at one time. For me, I can say 100% worth it. I love to ride. I don't just set out on a skip around town. When I head out on my bike, I'm generally out for 8 - 12 hours, maybe more, so comfort is highly important to me.

If you are on and off the bike quite a bit, like 1/2 hr at a time, then the Firehouse would probably due. All day rides.....aint gonna cut it!
