Default Aux light kit

I was just reading through the instuctions for the light kit and it states to splice into the yellow lead for the head light, shouldnt there be a relay for the lights to run independantly or is the amp draw not heavy enough to worry about it, I have read were a couple peps on here just spiced inside the headlight housing without adding the aux. switch with success. Anyone else have experience with adding these light kits.

Yes, there should be a yellow lead already wired up with a female connector in the headlamp wiring harness. It may be tucked in or taped up a little bit, but it should be there. You'll need to pick up the male connector to attach to the aux light kit yellow wire.

With this set up, there is no relay for the lights to run idependantly - just the on/off switch to control the aux lights. When you turn on your brights, the aux lights will go off.

If someone has wiring instructions to keep the aux lights on along with the brights - please let me know. The instructions I've found in the tech area are for touring bikes.

Do you know if the aux. wire is under the tank, or can you get to it without removing or lifting the tank? HD instructions dont you just love them.

It's in the wiring harness for the headlamp -should betucked into thefork coversright behing the headlamp. Take off the back panels of your fork coversto get access to the wiring. Look for the loose yellow wire with a female connector on the end (the connector on mine had a black plastic protective cap on it). It should be bundled or taped into the rest of the wiring.

ALSO - When I intalled mine, the wires kept coming loose from the connectors that were included with the kit (I couldn't crimp them down tight enough to hold the wires) so I secured the connecters with some solder - no problems since.

This is on a Springer Classic, I have a funny feeling the lead is under the tank.
