Default Help with timing and derby covers?

Hey all. Just got my first couple gadgets for my x-bones and need some help. I bought the right side timing cover, and the left side derby cover. My question is, can I simply take those off and put the new ones on without any oil leakage, or is it basically dry behind them. I know, stupid question, but it's my first Harley so give me a break! lol... Any and all help will be greatly appriciated...

Thanks,

WG

The timing cover......

timing cover is not a problem, if you lean the bike over to the right side you can change the derby cover without losing primary oil.

answer is yes you can remove and replace without loosing any oil. you should torque the bolts to spec and use a cris cross pattern when you tighten

You just need to stand the bike up straight to replace the derby cover... on a jack or have a friend hold it.

WARNING: It starts with two pieces, and then a third, a fourth, a fourteenth, twenty seventh...and on and on and on...even when you think you've finally put on that "last piece", something else catches your eye. [sm=drooldude.gif]
