My height is 5'4", I really want to buy a Softail Custom but with the forward control i wonder if i will have a good comfort level in riding and shifter /brake control. Any other vertically challanged people who canoffer opinions on this? I would appreciate a response.

You should be fine. The forwards on a Softail aren't that far forward. My wife is 5'3" and she rides a Dyna with forwards which has a farther reach.

 

You will be able to reach the controls ok. You will probably want to lower the bike though.

 

I'm 5'6". I lowered mine so I could get my feet on the ground a little better. Plus it made the bike look better. I can reach the the forward controls just fine. I even have some bend in my knees. You should take one out for a test ride before you buy one, just to be sure.
