Dynas made the switch in 99. Everyone else in 2000.

It was 2000. My 99 Heritage was the last of the evo motors. When HD balanced the twin cam they couldn't get the transmission to shift very well and discovered that the vibration from the motor on the evo was helping the tranny shift. So they changed things in the 2000 Softail tranny to go with the new balanced twin cam. If you're riding an evo softail, you'll find it's easier to find neutral when at a stop if you blip the throttle and get the vibrations up a bit. Maybe that's why they do it.

In the softail models, twincam started in the year 2000.

In dyna and touring models, twincam started in the year 1999.

FYI, there was also an FXR released in 1999 and 2000, with the EVO powerplant. Guess they had some leftover frames. The FXR 3 and 4 IIRC.

Nice bikes, those fXRs. They are getting rarer and rarer now.
