Default Speedo reading fault

My Heritage start playing up on a longride.
One minute its running normal and the next it readsaround 60fluctuating way under the actual speedits travelling. The problem is intermittent.
I check sensor and its clean as a whistle, gave it a wipe and placed it back still the same
battery leads are secure and tight.
any idea's

Thinks got worse now reads 20 klm when ignition is switched on after riding for a while the thing corrects itself
Today I changed the sensor, well same thing is happening.
ANY idea,s would be a help !!!!

check your battery...charging system...

had the same issue on another brand of bike... needed a new battery...
