Just picked it up yesterday! Question.

Just picked it up yesterday! Question.
After 30 years of riding top end sportbikes I made the move to Harley. Yesterday I picked up the new Anniversary Fatboy. I had them put on V&H two into one pipe and placed an order for the combo speedo and tach (no tach??)
The bike looks and sounds great. I took it for a short spin and felt comfortable right away EXCEPT for one thing.
That heel-toe thing is driving me nuts. I just want to put my foot onthe floorboard anywhere I want. I find that I have to 'fit' my foot in between the shifters.
What do you guys do? Do you use the 'heel' part? Can't I just remove that part and use the toe part like a regular bike?
Or is it something I will eventually get used to?

RE: Just picked it up yesterday! Question.
You can leave it, change it, take it off, or get used to it. Its all up to you.
That's at least half the fun of owning aHarley, making it YOURS.
Ya got a great start with a Fatboy, I'm not personally fond of the combo speedo/tach or the heel shifter, but its not my bike so the decision is yours and yours alone.
Enjoy the ride and welcome to the big leagues.

Hey congratulations!
I took my heal-shifter off within 30 minutes of being home for the first time with the bike.
HD sells a chrome cap that will go over the exposed portion of the spline. Keep the heel-shifter in your spare parts cabinet. It is identical to the toe-shifter, in case you need to replace it.
What sequence number is your Fatboy? Mine is #222 out of 4000 that they'll make.

RE: Just picked it up yesterday! Question.
Oh yea.....You don't need a tach.
Your Harley will tell you when to shift, and will complain when you need to downshift.
You're in a whole new world with a Harley. Heck, I know guys that don't even have a speedometer (or associated odometer). It's no-longer about speed or dragging knees through a turn.
It's having your honey on board holding you tight and your best buddies ahead and behind ya.

Why anyone would want to LOOK DOWN at the tach is beyond me.
If your having to look at the tach... your having to look at the road.
Just my opinion.

RE: Just picked it up yesterday! Question.
Maybe the toe shifter's arm is to low and needs to be adjusted higher, your boot should not be between the two shifter pegs. The front part of your boot should fit comfortably under the toe shifter peg & if you slide your boot all the way to the back of the board your heel should just bump against the heel shifter peg. Both shifter arms can be adjusted.
