Default Deluxe back Rest using Springer Parts

Hey all
I have seen a couple of postings on this already.
I am trying to put a driver back rest on my 2008 Deluxe using some older springer parts.

I know the partsI need:
52087-98 - Grab rail for driver seat
52827-97 - tall back rest pad for grab rail.

I can find lots of places that havethe grab rail, but no one seems to still have the tall back rest pad in stock. It has been discontinued for a year or so. I am in Canada, but I have tried all the places I can think of in the United States as well.

Anybody got anyideas on where/how I might find one.

thanks

Loving my new bike and still Smilin in Canada!

Ebay is the only place I am seeing them now, and the people who are selling them are price gouging!
Good luck.

The tall backrest is tough to find. I checked with dealers in several states without luck. On ebay, they were going for $200+ and I just wouldn't spend that much for a pad that may or may not function well as a backrest. Some folks have indicated that it is too far back to be really effective. In any event, it covers up the springer grab rail which is what I wanted to be visible. There is a guy on ebay that makes a bracket and backrest pad that he indicates will work with the grab rail and sells them for about $100. I haven't looked into it.

I have a Deluxe seat.

I found the Springer Rail and Low Rider's Backrest Pad at two different local HD Dealers. Extremely comfortable for long rides.

Call every dealer you can and have the parts shipped to you.

Moving the backrest forward is EASY...simply add a chrome spacer between the fender mount and the center down rail. You will need a longer screw, but a 3/4 inch spacer moved the wife's rest forward almost 2 inches.. I used stacked washers to find out how long I needed the spacer to be, then bought the spacer. This way, you get what you need the first time out.

I have added a photo, with the spacer circled in red for clarity.

Thanks all.
I still can't find the pad, but I will keep looking.
Appreciate the comments on moving the rail forward.
I am assuming that it mounts the same way as the stock grab rail.
A friend of mine bought a back rest from firehouse , works O.K., but not nearly as good looking as the springer set up.
Now if only the stockseat was a little more comfortable!!
