Default Oil Level

I changed the engine oil in my '09 heritage. I put in 3 quarts. My question is do I shove the oil dipstick all the way in to read it or not. It is reading low if I don't shove it fully in and I don't want to overfill.

Should be checked leaning on stand, warm, with stick all the way in. Your owners manual explains it in simple terms also.

drive it to warm it up, then let it idle for 2 minutes on the kickstand. Shut it off and pull the stick out and wipe it and check it with it seated all the way.
