Default oil change

hell guys,

question for the oil check:

my manual "softail slim 2014" says add 2quarts,

and perform a engine oil level hot check.

so should i than already start the bike!and add the last quarter in steps?

(how much is the volume between min/max?)

thanks in advance

Add the amount the manual recommends and take it around the block, then check the oil level. You should have an accurate check then.

Make sure you are putting the amount that is stated by the manual. Check it before if you want and see what it reads, if it isn't touching the dipstick or an inch above the high mark on the dipstick then something is amiss. The oil will expand with the heat and it should the recommended way to check the oil while the bike is on the jiffy/kick stand.

I would guess that 3.5qts is your oil capacity, so you may want to double check what you've read.

Unless you scavenge all the oil out there will likely be about 1/2 Qt. remaining from the old oil so after adding 2 qts. you will likely be =/< a qt. low.

Taking it around the block will get all the oil flowing so you'll have a good measurement.
Top it off then take it around the block again and remeasure.
