Default Feed Back on 2" seat springs on the Bones

I've always thought the 3" spring made the seat sit too high - based upon some feedback here, I decided to splurge on the $9 for the Drag Specialties 2" spring. The look was exactly what I wanted and the fit was as good as OEM springs (the plastic collar fit perfectly in the spring)......now for the big butt......a 225 lb butt....The Drag Specialties springs are smaller gauge and therefore compress much easier. I should have been worried after compressing them almost flat between my hands prior to install. But I installed them. I should have been worried when I sat on them for the first time and the seat pan touched the plastic cover under the seat. After the 90 mile test ride back and forth to work and numerous kidney jarring bounces, I've decided to go back to the OEM 3" spring until a stronger 2" can be found.

My report to anyone looking for the lower seat via smaller springs:
Drag Specialties 2" Springs get an A+ for fit and appearance and an F for performance if you weigh as much as me.

I am at 165 lbs and I bottom out the seat using the 2 inch springs, I took them off until I can find some springs that are stiffer.

Here's a thought - are you near any sort of automotive engineering firms? A few years ago I wanted some new semi-elliptic rear leaf springs for my MG & actually went with the old one's to a firm that made me some identical one's but with an extra leaf.

If you took the springs in, they would check the spring rate easily enough and may be able to either replicate or suggest alternatives.

Could have 'em black, then!!

Just a thought..

I"m 5'10" and 210 lbs....I like the cushiness of the 2" springs on smooth roads but I too jar my back on a good bump. I still have them on my bike....I actually went with J@P cycles' springs....the plastic collar doesn't stay in the springs like they did on the OEM springs. Do they stay in on the Drag Specialties springs?

I had read that about the J&P springs. thats why I went w/ Drag Specialties. The DS Spring has a small loop on one end that excepts the plastic collar snuggly. No tape or jerryrigging needed. the other end is bigger so I used that end to bolt to the seat. In town the 2" spring was fine. I just got tired of tensing up on the way to work when I thought I was gonna hit a big bump.

the J&P work well, I'm 190lbs and do not bottom out. a little electrical tape and the stay on fine, 5000 miles tested.
