Default Ok, here comes the sh$t storm...

Hopefully this wont trigger the "great debate", but I have a question. This morning while doing my normal 2500 mile service I decided to use something different in my primary other than the usual Formula + . Dont get me wrong, Formula + did ok as far as I know. Anyway, I dropped in the proper amount of lube in the primary this time using Amsoil 20/50, which is what I run in the engine. Fired it up and made a test run and I gotta say, shifting has never been as easy or as quiet.
Now for my question. Anyone else here experience the same thing? I dont want to get into the thing of Amsoil is the devil or "do you sell it?" and all that. No, I dont sell it or try to. It was just amazing to me the difference. Ive used Formula + since I got the bike new, December 06. And yes, I read the poll in the oil section until my contacts almost exploded. I just want some feedback from Softail owners and their experience using this or anything other than Formula + .
Thanks in advance!

i put 20/50 in my train maybe 1000 miles ago and I definitely noticed an improvement in ease of shifting.

+1 for amsoil

Did you use the 20/50 motor oil or is there a special blend for the primary? Also what are you using in the transmission? I'm getting ready to change mine this week. I'm currently running amsoil in my engine I have always run it in my R6 and love it!!

Thanks for the reply. After reading the oil poll honestly, I was about as lost as when I started....lots of opinions out there. Anyway, for now it work nice in mine. Going on a run today so I may feel different after a few hundred miles, but if its a negative result I will post it as well.
Thanks again.

Here's your black cloud..., I don't see changing the oil in the primary and gaining smoother and quieter shifting. BUT, if it did, it makes me think that the fresh oil is masking a clutch problem.

No debate here. Dumped the formula way back during the break in and put ams 20/50 in. All I got was more chain noise. Shifting stayed the same. Changed the trans to 75/140 and the sound and shifting stayed the same. Put it in the engine and it made more noise too. Learned to ignor the placebo effect long ago. Kept the ams in three holes because I like synthetic.

Ok, after about a 300 mile ride today I can give a better report on the change. I can say that its less pronounced "clunking" than before. I dont notice any clutch slipping as some report with synthetic. In particular I notice a difference in the initial drop into 1st gear and then into 2nd.
I cant say that overall "shifting" is that much improved but the clunking, noise factor is reduced and I plan to stay on this path. I have to say that I cant tell a great deal of difference in the Amsoil 75/140 and the Mobile 1 gear oil in the tranny, but Im going to leave it and decide at the next service.
