Changing from a CV to a Mikuni?

Changing from a CV to a Mikuni?
I have a 2000 Fatboy carbed with the stock carb rejetted for my intake, true duals and Screamin Eagle ignition. Engine is stock and the bike out runs all other 88's in the group. A friend has offered me his old 42mm Mikuni to liven things up. I have read that they can add 10 hp, then I've also read they only add 2-3 hp on the dyno. Not sure what to expect in change in performance.
Also, I live at sea level and do a lot of rides up to 10,000 ft on our trips. The HP loss at elevation is noticeable and I wonder if it would be worse with the Mikuni?
Thanks for some feedback from those in the know!

KKiley,
Go For It! I installed a 42 Mikuni on my 03 Train. Significant improvement in throttle response! Put a Smile on my face as soon as I rode the bike. There are a few things to watch-out for when installing the carb. (1) If you're going to use your stock CV Choke Cable, you must make an alteration where the cable connects to the Mikuni. (2) The Mikuni may hit the fins of your jugs preventing a proper seat between the carb and the intake manifold. All of this is explained in the Mikuni installation instructions as well as proper tuning of the carb.
If your buddy no longer has the installation instructions, I can send you a copy. Email me at olongapo2@gmail.com

Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear. I know the carb will never compensate like the FI will, I can live with that. I knew about the fin issue and have the dremel tool ready. Didn't know about the choke cable adjustment...can you provide more info about that? The noise is not an issue, I am always chasing rattles, comes with having a rigid mount motor, lol.

Would the 42" mikuni be an improvement over the 44" cv carb or should I maybe go for the 45" mikuni ?
I have to change my sig., thought It had the Mikuni, but it has the 44" cv.

Thinking about doing the same thing but my motor has been modded: 95", high compression pistons, 211 cams, screaming eagle ignision, 44" cv carb, kerker 2 into one.

Mikuni changes
Hello,
I have a 2001 Deuce, 88 cubic and Stage 1 A/C and Vance Hines 2 into 2 straight shots with baffles.
Harley shop recently installed the upgraded cam chain tensioners and 211 cams. I installed Mikuni 42HSR.
Bike runs good, but need recommendations on Mikuni changes with the 211 cams. Bike should run better. Would ignition module changes help?

Without doing anything else to the 88, you might be disappointed in the difference between the CV and the Mikuni. Unless you do something to make the engine breathe better, you can't take full advantage of the Mikuni.
Most likely what you're going to see is a slight increase top end performance but, you're definitely going to sacrifice some low end torque.
