Fat Boy Lo Vs Fat Boy

What's really affected is lean angle, more than anything else. The Deluxe and the Fatboy Low both come from the factory 1" lower. My 2005 Softail Springer Classic runs a max right/left lean angle of 30/30 degrees (per SAEJ1168). I can get a little more, of course, and the Springer front end links also help lever the front end up even more as I lean at a steady speed and compress less when slowing, unlike the usual front ends. (Yet another reason to love a Springer!)
First time I hopped on my wife's Deluxe, I nearly tore off a footboard bracket! It has a max lean of 25.8/26.7. The Fat Boy Lo is even worse at 25.6/25.2. I think they are getting lower by the year since they went to the wider rear tire, because even the Cross Bones is now at 27.2/27.7, while it appears to just be a bobbed version of my bike. Same 64.5" wheelbase, it shows only a half a degree more rake but the same 4.9" ground clearance? Obviously, they did something else to the rear of the Cross Bones besides just a fatter back tire if it can't lean and turn with my '05...
Now, a Softail Custom, (an FX-style bike) has a max right/left lean angle of 34.2/35.5, but by comparison, a sport bike runs around 50/50, depending on suspension compression. Even the Road Kings and Ultras get 33/31 and cops turn them inside a 16' diameter circle. The point is, the FL-style Softails are pretty damn low already when you can't even get 30 degrees of lean out of them anymore, and they want to take away even more??? Might as well ride a Can-Am Spyder if you want to go around corners straight up all the time!
Now, for short-legged people, I can see the compromise, but personally, I like being able to turn around inside two parking spaces at full-lock&full-lean and do U-turns on a whim without having to duck-walk back and forth all the time.
