Default Oil question 1994 Heritage Softail

Everything I've read says 3 quarts +. I've drained the oil, changed the filter, added 2.8 quarts and it's full to the bottom of the neck of my oil reservoir which is way over the line on my dipstick. This was checked while standing straight up after running the motor for 2 mins.

go with 3 quarts or the oil line on the dipstick?

Oil line on dipstick. 2.5 quarts is about the most, maybe a touch more, I've been able to get into mine. Check your owners manual for whether or not to stand it upright or on sidestand to check-it changed from year to year.

Then, I'd suggest reading more, or even better look in Ur Owners or Shop manual.. If U have one.? If not then go buy them, it'll be a good investment.

Even My manual on our 96''er say's she holds 3 qts, but it doesn't take 3 qts when I change the oil. She'll only take around 2 1/2 qts to fill.

Also our bike manual says to check oil on the Jiffy stand while the motors at operating temp.

Urs may be diff. I don't know, U might get all kinds of answers in here..

CALL Ur dealership and ASK them. Then U'll know for sure.

Yeah I was told to check it standing straight up. I guess the rule of thumb Is if your dipstick is fixed to the cap check it straight up, if it pivots from the cap and moves around, check it on the jiffy stand.

The dipstick on my sportster was fixed to the cap and the manual said to check the oil on the jiffy stand. Just saying.

my heritage is a 97 ,, I fill oil to the upper line on the dipstick with the bike upright then start it , let it warm up and look for any possible leaks. Then shut it down, wait a few minutes and recheck the dip stick with the bike up right in what it would be at if I was riding. I recheck dip stick , fill to upper line if needed.

U may be right on this.. never thought about that..

Our 07 stock oil cap does pivot.. but again I think the (Non Digital) Temp cap I bought that has the steel rod in it is fixed solid. I Don't like to check the oil level with the one that shows the Temp, cause it is hard to see the marks on the dipstick.
