Default Need Taller Gearing-2014 Custom 1200

I've mostly been riding Japanese and European V twins & Sport Cruisers. Most of them including the Moto Guzzi were shaft driven.
The problem with the 1200 is the max torque is right at 3500 RPMs or a hair under 75mph.
The speed limit in some parts of Texas is 85, while in my area its mainly 75mph. No one does the speed limit around here, so I find the 1200 a little buzzy on the open road.
What are my options for changing the sprockets for taller gearing?

The option I went with is to put in a 30-tooth transmission pulley (Harley part number 40380-04). If you go for a non-Harley part, make sure it's made of steel. The aluminum pulleys wear out pretty fast I am told.

HTH.

What RPMs are you running at say 70 MPH?

Sorry, don't have a tach but it should be in the range 3250 -3300. The bigger the transmission sprocket the lower the RPM, so the math says:

At 70mph in 5th gear:
With 29 teeth (Stock) sprocket it is 3400 rpm
So with 30 teeth, it is 3400 x 29/30 = 3286.67 rpm

Can someone else with a tach please confirm that. I have a 2007 XL1200L, all stock engine except for the 30T transmission sprocket.

Thx.

You don't really need to "tach" a pulley change to figure out the difference, it's pretty simple math.

Going from a 29 tooth to a 30 tooth tranny sprocket:
29/30 = .96666

If with a 29 tooth at 70 MPH the RPM is 3400, then with a 30 tooth:
RPM * .96666 = the new RPM
3400 * .96666 = 3287

Or, a ~3.5% reduction

Ive got a 32 tooth front pulley that I got for my 883. It was just a little too much for that little engine that could. I sell it to ya fro $60 plus shipping. Heres where he sells his new ones.

Will it work with the stock belt and what's involved in the swap out?

when you swap out the pulley what do you do to recalibrate the speedo on the newer bikes?

Speedo Healer is one option.
