Default Brake lever pulls hard after brake pad install

Well, yesterday i decided to install both front/back brake pads on my sporty, today after much trial and error i finished the front brakes, only problem im having now is when you pull on the brake lever it will brake but its stiff, I had the brake res cover open while installing the pads like the instructions of my HD manual says, does it just need to be bled now. Thank you.

My ride: 2006 1200 c

Unless you opened the bleeder you should be fine. If there was air, you'd have lever fade.
I think the pad or piston is binding.

bleed them. replace the fluid while you are at it- i think the rule is every two years, replace the fluid.. make sure you use the right dot fluid for your year.

Stiff as in requiring a bunch of force to pull the lever to brake? Whenever I've installed new pads the lever felt a bit different with the meatier pads. Did you by chance add a bunch of fluid in the M/C while the old pads were pretty worn down already? Try checking over everything you did and if you can't find anything wrong then I'd try reverse bleeding with a syringe and fresh DOT 5 brake fluid. Don't forget to suck the old fluid out from the M/C first or you'll end up with a pretty big mess and brake fluid isn't the kind of crap you want all over your bike.

I agree with cvaria - the job is only half done! Read your reservoir cap to confirm which brake fluid to use - it will be either DOT5 or DOT4, but do not mix them! If it is DOT5, do not use DOT5.1, as that also will cause problems. Whoever in DOT decided using that number was a good idea should be shot!
