Hey there, I have a 2015 Iron and having issues with the gauge backlight. Turns on when you start the bike but when you ride for about 10 minutes it shuts off, everything keeps working just backlight shuts off. You can stop turn the bike off turn it back on and all works fine for about 10 more minutes. Anyone have any idea?

 

The owner's manual suggests that there is a sensor that varies the instrument lighting with ambient lighting (it's in "Controls - Instruments, "The instrument backlight activates after a slight delay. The backlight may change briefly when ambient lighting changes (such as going through a tunnel).").

If it sees enough ambient light it probably decides that no backlight is needed and turns it off.

If you have doubts, it's under warranty. Just take it in and tell the dealer about it. If it's broken they should fix it free.

 

That's what I was thinking I've been unable to do a night ride due to the long days in Washington. But dealer what's money to check it out for like 100 bucks! They said if it was a warranty issue it would be covered but to check it out like 100 bucks seems a bit much.

 

Plan B would be to call Harley-Davidson and ask them about it (I'd mention about the dealer wanting $ to check it too - that does not seem right).

Edit: Do you have aux lighting that might be shining on the sensor? If so, have you tried turning off the aux lights to see if the backlight behaves properly?
