I have heard before the vacuum tip that HarleyScuba mentions and seems like a good one. Another method is just tie a small weight or a small nut at the end of a piece of fishing line and let gravity do the work fishing the line through it. then just tie the wires to the line and pull them through.

Edit: Oops disregard HarleyScuba mentioned that also but using a washer.

Thanks for the vids. I am leaning towards not having to do any splicing, since I don't need any additional length. I'm hoping I can just get away with popping the pins out and reseating them, somehow.

Most likely that's the best way. As for me for some reason I usually screw up the plugs someway when trying to remove the pins and or the receiving ends and wind up cutting anyway. I think it's my eyesight going away because of the age LOL. Good luck with the project.

I went the route of popping the plugs off and NOT splicing the wires. However, in doing so, I broke one of the pieces on the plug and it doesn't "click" back together all the way. So just be very careful during the reassembly.

I'm now considering soldering the wires and ditching the harness all together. Has anyone encountered a reason not to do that?

Is there a trick to removing/reinstalling the pins at the connector?

that should help. I used some needle nose pliers to pull that plate out instead of jamming a small flat object in the back like he used.

I think the connectors you are going to be working on are "Deutsch" connectors. Just in case here is a link on a how to.

If you have to do some work later on that requires taking bars off or changing bars you would have to cut them. And if you say you never will need to do that in the future, that almost guarantees you will need to do it. But that's the only draw back to eliminating the connector I can foresee.
