NRHS 1250 kit

NRHS 1250 kit
Looking at finally upgrading my '06 883R to a 1250. Is there anything else I ought to do while it's apart? I'm definitely going to put a Barnett clutch in it.
Head work?
Should I have a shop do it if I've never attempted such work before? I'm only moderately mechanically-inclined as it's not something I do often. Is the NRHS the way to go? Most of the threads I've read are at least a few years old so I'm not sure if anything has changed since.

Quite a few 1250 kits amongst our members, so there is some expertise available. Another supplier is Hammer, who I suspect gets the majority of support in here. NRHS used to be an HDF contributor, but got thrown out for some reason, lost in the mists of time.
We have several excellent threads on installing a 1250 kit, which between them will probably answer your questions. Use the Search facility in the blue bar above, go to Advanced, then enter 1250, which will take you to a selection of recent threads, mostly relating to the Hammer kit. There are three very long threads, which are the ones to read through first. Get a long drink and enjoy!
You can use a 1250 kit as it comes and get a great boost in performance, which comes from the extra cubes, but also increased CR. Further mods after that, such as porting the heads and cams, add cost and even more GO! As for installation yourself, you can probably answer that after reading those three threads!

I have a NHRS 1250 setup on my (00) bike and couldn't be happier..that said I could have gone with Hammer and been just as happy..with the new stuff installed the bike has a ton more power and runs much smoother than before I installed it (nice bonus there) ..I also did some other work, big valves/porting, n4 cams,a extra plate clutch with a stronger spring along with a new ignition module (dynatec 2000i).. along with better exhaust and air filter....needless to say the bike is much, much faster, and the power keeps coming on all the way to the redline...

you cant say that on here!
grumpy old men, who think they know everything, will appear and tell you are hallucinating, then they say there's no benefit to revving above 5000... springs..... and other incorrect bs. because that's what their bikes do, and we are all riding the EXACT SAME BIKE. then they'll say, " been riding/wrenching since dinosaurs were chasing motorcycles...." so they know it all.
that being said... don't make any attempt to cool your bike, increase perfomance, or enjoy cooled performance without their permission.
