Default torque cones? yes? No? Doesnt Matter?

I wanted to find out with people think about torc cones. I am switching out my exhaust this weekend and I currently have torque cones on my exhaust now. I just wondering if i should continue using them with the new exhaust. 2013 48.

Torque cones help with low end torque, at the cost of top end HP. I've ran them for years with no problem on a big metric.
Nowadays most riders prefer to do the lollipop mod at the end of the exhaust.
DK's TTis are based off the lollipop mod.

I still have a set of White Bros. torque cones. I may put them in on my next exhaust change.

Torque Cones are most often found hiding in some "master builder's" wazoo custom pipes. Usually full of soot due to poor fuel control they are an attempt to get the carb to work with the outsized, swoopy fat front primary tubes, usually big radius copies of somebody's work. These kill power and should be thrown away if you put a decent exhaust system on the engine. Too much TV.

Lots of good reading about pipes.

If your bike is well tuned, you probably do not need cones.

I just installed DK Customs 158W on my 3" Rush with 2" baffles just to see if I can get more low-mid range torque. My bike is very well tuned with no decel popping so I really do not need them....just testing if it helps and smooths the performance up the RPM range. Hopefully, it will only deepen the tone and not quiet down my pipes. Relatively inexpensive to try it out.

Update 4/28/16 Not much change in sound....still loud which is good. A little more pick up but barely noticeable probably because it is not the correct size. Seems smoother shifting through the gears. It's a keeper.

Still waiting for DK Customs to make TTIs 218W which would be the proper size for my pipes and fills the gap between 158W and 258W.

We've tested quite a few Torque Cones...have not seen many that produced any measurable gain in power, a few that gave, at most, a 1.5% gain...not enough to even feel. Note- Most had No detrimental effect on power either.

That is one of the reasons we developed the Patented Thunder Torque Inserts. If you use the correct size TTI, you will get as little as a 7% gain in low and mid range Torque, but typically a 12-20% gain in low and mid range torque.

Here is a LINK to determine which TTI is the correct size for your particular pipe.

TTI's should not be confused with lollipops...they had the origin there, but are much more developed and effective than lollipops.

Do TTIs take anything away from the top end?

I did not respond since Kevin normally responds pretty quickly.

Check the link he provided...it will give you what size to use and explain the difference between W and Q. The pic in that link of TTIs being too small and just right are the TTIs on my bike with 2" slip-ons. I used 158W which provided the best performance improvement and deeper tone. Just email or call them directly if you have questions.
