1200 conversion vs. 96
So i have a curious question. Ive read that after doing a 1200 conversion that. The conversion bikes are faster then normal 1200's. Also that the 1200's are faster then big twins (88's). Buthow do they compair against a 96? Would a conversion bike do well, or would you need a conversion plus a cam kit. Or more? Any idea's anyone?

RE: 1200 conversion vs. 96
According to H-D the stock 96" gives 66-68 hp at 5500 rpm and torgue of about 82 lb.-ft. at about 3,000 rpm. A good 1200 conversion should give high 60s to low 70s in both torque and hp. Factor in the difference in weight and the converted Sportster is 'quicker' than a 96". But, that 96" is a torque monster at low rpms, while the Sportster peaks about 1,000 rpm higher. Of course, depending upon the type of 1200 conversion done, these numbers will vary.

John, does 96 have 68hp only? I thought it is going to be more, anyone?

My 88" FatBoy produces 79/84 (at the rear wheel) with nothing more than a SERT, exhaust, intake, and a dyno tune by someone that actually knew what they were doing.
Many guys running the SE 103 engine are getting 100/100 at the rear wheel with a racer tuner and dyno.
Doesn't take much to make any Harley put out good power figures.
