Default Smoke from the intake manifold!

Hello,

I haven`t posted much here but I really should. Some of the projects here are unreal and very well done. I have a 2009 nightster.

I have an issue, I was riding in this morning and I am not sure why but when I am sitting in traffic on idle, the intake manifold starts to smoke right around the area where the screaming eagle intake connects. (seen below)
I did an oil end of last season (October) I didn`t have this issue prior but its seems to be happening during hot weather.

Anyone know why this might be?

Thanks in advance!

What is your breather bolt setup like?? Does it vent the oil or recirculate through your intake? Thinking maybe oil vapors from your breather bolts is getting on something hot and burning off and you notice it when you aren't moving. Or check your oil level, sportsters don't like to be on the "full" line and you could be coughing up oil that is then burning off of something hot, causing the smoke.

when you installed the heavy breather did you use the stock breather bolts that were with the stock intake???
or did you install the heavy breather with the breather bolts it came with ??? there is a BIG differ between the two breather bolt setups

I am honestly not sure because this never happened before and only started after the last oil change. It can be 1. The oil is high and it is burning off. 2. The breather bolts are not the right kinds. How would I be able to check this?

thanks!

Looking at your photo, I can tell that you don't have the stock breather bolts. The bolts that you have can still operate the same way as the stock ones though.. The two big bolts that screw into your jugs are the breather bolts. Look at them closely and see if there are any holes on the outside of them that air could vent from. Otherwise take off your intake (take the elbow off, right after your throttle body) and see if there is a passage from those bolts into your intake.

Ya, I think those are caps over the bolts, pop them off and take a look. The bolts he's referring too above are actually hollow, allowing oil vapor to escape and blow back into the throttle body through passages molded into that mounting plate. Oil residue is probably plugging up the passages.

in the photo - the red ARROW is the s/e breather bolt that should be in there

pop the covers off -(blue arrow)
check to see if you have these ( red arrow) breather bolts
check the rubber o rings also make sure they are not screwd up

Answer #1 is the most likely culprit. Siphon out enough oil with a turkey baster or something similar and bring the oil halfway down between full and low.
