Default XL1200C brake upgrade question

Hi All,

Is it true that 42943-08 (Front Left XR Brake) bolts right up? Anyone done this? Can you verify it bolts right on and more importantly, that braking is improved?

Also, if I end up doing that swap I'd likely go to SS hose since I'd be draining anyway. Any links to where to obtain an affordable solution for that?

Last question: any similar "simple/cheap" upgrades for the rear?

Thanks!

Bump!

I swear I read about this on the forum. Surly someone has done this or has info? I called two dealers parts departments and both were clueless/puzzled by the question.

Perhaps look up your 1200C part number and see if it fits the XR to determine if it is interchangeable.

I just replaced my front caliper and relocated/replaced my rear with chrome calipers and to a larger matching SS rear rotor. I used parts from an earlier custom which was all bolt on.

The XR caliper only fits Sportster with cast wheels or the 48 due to clearance requirements... you can only swap your caliper used by the Dyna/Softail before 2008 (from 2008 you have to file the caliper some mm).

You need a master cylinder that would supply pressure to both calipers. The single disc MC wouldn't be enough pressure.

It would still be just one caliper. Only the left. Here is a reddit post where someone did it on a nightster:

https://www.reddit.com/r/sportster/c...liper_upgrade/

It has mag wheels though? Is that key?

Yes, I tried to explain that question in my previous answer -sorry for my poor english-. The XR caliper can't be used with laced wheels except in the Sportster 48 which uses mid glide. With your front wheel you can only adapt without clearance issues the caliper mounted by Dyna and Softail models until 2007.

And yes, you could need a larger master cylinder if you want the same feeling of your brake lever.

Yes. The only thing that I can think of that would allow it on a larger-than-16"
spoke wheel would be to go with larger 13"~14" rotors (like from Arlen Ness)
with caliper adapters that move the caliper outwards toward the rim.
Disclaimers apply, I have not done the above, I used the stock cast wheel
on my OL's Iron.

Thanks everyone. Guess I'll be looking for another option. Any recommendations for a good aftermarket bolt on caliper upgrade?

Default larger rotors, any issues?

Any issues going to a larger rear rotor? thanks,
I'm going to do the ness caliper swap to dress it up, and the 11.5 jagged rotor for better braking power in the rear,
Then the 15" front rotor for better power and again the ness dress up cliper.
