A bit worried about the job, lots of little parts, looks kinda complex.

Hehh ehh! Dont be conscerned - if you can assemble AN hose ends
(and I know you can) you can do this. I did add Intiminators,
but that would be more like "icing on the cake" so to speak.

good luck,

T.

I'm sure you're right. As soon as it gets too cold to ride I'll get on it.

Still trying to sort this out. Need to know which internal parts need to be replaced besides the seals. Am going to replace the dampers and springs with ones from a 1200C to get more travel.

Here's what I think I need....

45376-09 spring
45378-87 oil seal
45405-75A screw
45790-80 screw
45925-09 damper
45984-87 o-ring

2 of each

50124-09BHP jiffy stand for 1200R
53176-08 stand bushings (2)

Think I'd just get the Fork seal kit #49378-09 and call it good.
(which is what I did do when I added the Ricor Intiminators)

The fork seal kit is about ~$30.00 from BoardtrackerHD.
Need one per side...

Seems to be everything but dampers, springs and drain screws? What year is your bike?

Its a 2013. I'm going to 'assume' that since the part number has a -09
on it, that it means 2009 - up, maybe to 2016 when HD changed to
a new cartridge suspension.

Yes the kit has everything you need. If you haven't rebuilt the forks
before, they probably need it by now...

all the part numbers match up. That'll save me some hassle. Any of the parts tricky to install (like bushings)?

pretty easy job...check youtube they might have videos on this. service manual will have all your specs. ive done several forks including changing the "low" to the "s" damper tubes. used screaming eagle fork oil (or brand of your choice) to increase the wt vs stock oil and made a major improvement in ride quality. I know there were a few that done this with write ups on xlforum.net since the whole site is pretty much sportster specific. added air shocks on the rear and the sporty rode pretty good! there are more expensive shocks, but take off shocks are cheap and easy to find. good luck and have fun, take your time and take pics if you need to

The top 'dust' seals moreso than the brass sliders. The kit actually has more
parts than you need, so you just match up the plastic pieces with what yours
uses. As mentioned, youtube has some videos you can look at. I used
the PVC pipe 'slidehmmer' method to seat the top seals. What was
actually the hardest was getting the top nut back in since its pushing
against spring pressure. I made an 'installer' out of a long squeese-clamp
& roller bearing so the nut would freely rotate similar to this one:

Here's a good read from SportyTrace http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...d.php?t=446320
