Default 883 Piston head after only 1000 miles

I'm doing the SE 1200 conversion on my 2016 Iron. Here is a picture of the existing 883 Piston Head after only 1000 miles.

Seems to me to have a lot of carbon build up after just 1K miles but this is the first time i've done this or removed heads so maybe it's normal. Since I'm replacing these with the 1200 pistons its not a huge deal but i thought the existing pistons would look better than that.

Looks relatively normal carbon buidup. They tend to burn more oil the first 1k-5k miles of their life as they break in anyways.

Stop routing blowby into your engine.
Many threads on this issue if you search "breather bolt bypass"

Yeah that's why I don't vent mine into the intake.

Harley uses a ship-away fluid in the engine and primary, just sufficient to get the bike to the first service. It tends to coke up a bit, don't worry about it, just make sure your 1200 cylinders are finished properly and let er buck.

Looks ok. Seafoam in your gas helps break up those deposits. Like others said. If you vent your air cleaner to atmosphere, it will reduce those deposits.

Funky piston. I guess those are the new hotness. I dont remember mine having that raise center.

Say thank you to the EPA for that!

Whatever air cleaner you use after your upgrade, make sure it has an External Breather System (EBS) on it.
