Default SE race tuner

Has anyone used the SE race tuner on their 1200? What kind of difference did it make?

I don't have a sporty but if you are doing any mods on your bike I think the race tuner is the way to go. You are fuel injected aren't you.

no it is a 2004 carb. model, so I know it will not make as much difference as the efi. but I thought it would be nice to change the rev. limit / timing and tune for some future internal mods. I got a really good deal on the tuner,or I would have just went with the street legal ignition mod. I think you should be able to do about the same thing with the tuner, right?

I just got my bike back from the shop, and hooked up my tuner and found that I have no Idea what I'm doing. My bike is not real modified just a/c and pipes but I would like to add s.e. coil, and wires but do not see the coil for 2004 xl in the book. My main reason for the race tuner was to tune the backfireing through the carb out. Without s.e. cams it looks like all I can do is adjust the spark but I dont know how how far to go. any Ideas?

pretty sure this is more of a jetting issue rather than a timing issue - read somewhere about shimming one of the jets with a washer - and wala - no carb farts. Need to go look and will get back to you

I had the same trouble with my 04 883 and it is now fixed . First off the ICM needs to be reprogrammed to the latest software upgrade because there were some timing issues with the 04 and 05 sportsters . Off an idle when you would blip the throttle it would backfire thru the carb spitting gas all over the place needles to say very annoying . I placed an .045 slow jet and a 180 main jet then I drilled out the plug over the idle air screw and turned it out 2.5 turns . Then I had the ICM reflashed and guess what no more carb farts . A sportster will always have carb farts until it warms up but i get no farts after it is warm . The other problem I had was a faulty crankshaft position sensor ( ICM CODE P0374) . My problem is now solved. Ask the dealer what software is in your bike . There are plenty of posts on this very same subject might be a place for you to start. Good Luck
Do a browse throuogh the tech section on carbs. and a try a few searches - folks here will help get it right - let us know

check this out, it's where I read the washer thing

I get carb farts too on occasions, but his more when the bike is not at operating temps. I just leave the choke out a little ways unitl the engine warms up. I also noticed that it backfires more when I I run it too low of RPM's .

I did ask HD dealer about this and they told me that its just a little lean. Again it doesn't cough when I leave the choke out a little until it gets hot.

My questoin would be on this is.... Is this more of a carb adjustment or jetting issue since it has stage 1 upgrade and V&H pipes ?

Start out with just one washer on the needle an see if it helps. In the summer I run with 2 washers but during the winter just 1 since air is heavier an bikes run richer in colder weather.
