2007 Sportster Gas Tank Upgrade
|
Has anyone had experience installing the aftermarket "easy fit" larger gas tank on a Sportster orig. with a 3.3 gal tank? I'm interested in going to a larger tank on my 2007 1200 Roadster without having to replace the seat too (as required with Harley parts). I was wondering about the quality of available custom tanks and how easily they install. Any help or suggestions on where to buy is appreciated.

No offense, but 2007 was the last year HD put a classic-shaped tank onany Sportster. You consider taking it off an upgrade? That's motorcyclesacrilege!

I have to agree that I just never understood this modification... The Roadster and Nightster just look so damn good with the peanut tank... classic lines. I'm not picking on you 1200r... lots of people change out the tank... But what are you really gaining.... You go from 3.3 gallons to 4.4 gallons... Not all that significant IMHO... And I think it ruins the look of the bike.

It's his bike and his chioce. Personally I like the peanut tank look but hate filling up every 100 miles or so. I went with a stretched tank that's 4.2 gallons for looks and function. I know the 04 and newer are different as far as mounting is concerned but I know there's tanks available for those bikes as well. The best thing to do would be to call the company selling them to see how well they will work with your seat.

Nah, I'm with the OP. The peanut tank is too tiny. I do too many day-rides to keep stopping for gas that often.

I couldn't agree with you more on the "his bike his choice" thing... I am a firm believer in individuality among bike owners...However... Your bike looks damn good with that tank.... A 1200R on the other hand... Ugh...Okay... Now I will state my honest opinion on this... If you don't want aSportster with a peanut tank, then buy a: 1200C, 1200L, 883C etc. A wide tank on a 1200R or a Nightster looks like crap. But if the look of your bike is not a factor, then why not have someone fabricate a six gallon tank for ya'?.... That would hold more fuel [8D]

Wide tanks look bad on any type sportster to me. By changing you get 1 more gallon, not that big of a difference any way you try to spin it.

RE: 2007 Sportster Gas Tank Upgrade
I like the look of the larger 4.5 gallon tank on the Customs....
When on a run or something I like to stop every 100 miles or so, but if in a hurry to get somewhere, and I'm on my Sportster, I can easily go 175+ miles between fuel stops...
(Even with the high performance SE "E" cams my 1200C averages right at 50 MPG)....
But small tank, large tank, whatever, it's nothing more than a personal preference..

RE: 2007 Sportster Gas Tank Upgrade
I'm happy with a 3.3 gallon tank, and the traditional look. By the time it runs down my butt needs a break anyhow. In any event, its a personal choice.
