Default Negative Battery Cable

Hope everyone has had a great memorial weekend!

Took friday off to change all the oils and replace my air cleaner to ride all weekend long and not spend half a day wasted on service.

So, the short version.

Changed oils, air cleaner.
Took test ride to check for leaks, all systems go!
Decide to take advantage of day off and go for a late after noon cruise around town.
10 miles from my house I notice at a stop light that my engine & battery light are lit.
Green light, I took off and the lights disappeared.
1/2 mile later on again and speedo isn't registering, then lights go out.
To avoid the traffic behind me I pull over into the closest parking lot(a funeral home none the less)
Bike dies as I roll to a stop.....

I managed to pick up a new battery and had to pull a nascar pit stop changing the battery since rain was looming over my shoulder.

This was my first battery change and let me tell you, that sucked!!!

I've got one question, I managed to unbolt the battery cable from the bike and just attached it to the new battery before installation but the location of the bolt on the frame for the negative cable is a pain in the ****.... anybody have any wisdom on an easy way to remove/attach it?

That's the way most people recommend doing it. I must have gotten lucky, because my neg. cable is long enough that I can slide the battery out just far enough to remove/reconnect the negative cable at the battery terminal.

Yea It's a pain. I'm thinking of useing iether an extention with a swivle end on a ratchet or a flex extention.

Yeah I know but it can help people for years! I was installing my Battery Tender this weekend and found this post while searching for information on a problem I was having...

Well, since this post is so old, the "red arrow" poster has most likely deleted un-needed pics, that being one of them. However, following the battery cable to where it is connected to the frame is not rocket science, and we really shouldn't need a picture for that anyway.

But, the negative cable is a major pain to work on at the battery side! It's doable, but a real pain.

I had a hell of a time getting that negative terminal re-connected. I was hoping to figure out where it connected to the frame so I could loosen it to give myself some slack to work with, but wasn't able to follow the wires as they pass through the frame and weren't able to be followed, and I wasn't able to find the answer here (that's why I was here) so I just went back out and kept working on it on the battery side and finally got it back together.
