Default How to check Idle Speed

I rejetted the carb and played with the idle mix screw over last wkend. Now she sounds like she idles a little faster than she used to.

I know how to adjust the speed and I know it needs to be between say 950 and 1050 but how can I measure this?

More importantly, how can I measure it for free?

Wouldn't be concerned about it. If it sounds right and keeps up when you come off the choke, it's about right. If not, tweak it a bit more or less.

Free...can't help ya there. But there are some fairly inexpensive tools that will slip to the plug wires, etc that will tell you.

I moved from a #42 stock to a #45 for the slow jet. The main jet had already been changed to a #175 even though I think 883's are only supposed to go to a #170. She runs great now. I am finally able to give WOT and not get sputtering!

It should. You can play with it at least. From what I've read you want to give it 1/4 to 1/2 turn out and then ride for a while to see if you still get carb fart. If you do then go another 1/4 to 1/2 turn out and ride for a while again. Repeat until no more farts. At this point your idle speed may seem a little high so you may have to adjust this which is the situation I'm having right now.
