Default Rust on valve stems

&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Ya, rust on the valve stems. I just replaced my factory exhaust last week and while doing so I was looking at the exhaust gaskets with a flashlight.&nbsp\\; Well when the light hit the combustion chamber and I saw the valve the stem looked to have a slight amount of rust on it.&nbsp\\; I hope this is not normal...&nbsp\\; I have worked on small blocks for quite some time and never seen a valve stem look like that. I should have taken a picture, but was running out of time and just put the new pipes on and fired it up.&nbsp\\; Everything seems fine, no oil usage, just curious...

thanks for any help.

Default RE: Rust on valve stems

if you saw something suspicious on a part that is as crucial to the engine as a valve stem, you better open it up to make sure.

but are those parts, steel? or alluminum? or some other kind of metal? what if they CANNOT rust and that was just a deposit?
