Default 10,000 mile scheduled service

Can someone tell me what is done in a 10,000 mile service, and if it's worth the cash? I know I can get it done at an independent dealer near me for much less than the dealership, which I would probably do. But what's done in that service? Thanks.

I'm going against the grain here in saying that if you don't want or can't do it yourself, then it's worth the money. My manual is at home, so I couldn't tell you off the top of my head what's recommended. My manual is the best thing I bought so far- it helps me decide if I am comfortable fixing whatever may go wrong with my bike.

My Indy treats me and my bike much better than a dealer ever would, so the things I'm not comfortable doing I definitely trust him to do.

Just be like me and have a buddy who lives a mile away that works at a Harley dealership. I just go over there and he walks me through the work of each service. Given also that in the fall im taking motorcycle mechanics sponsered by Harley to do my own work, maybe some on the side but doubt ill be at a dealership as I still have my day job

I know this may sound ridiculous, but have you read the Owners Manual that came with the bike? The schedule listing what's done at each service interval is in the back of the manual.

Just had my 10K on my 08 XL883c. It was $521. They had a special deal going though, they have punch cards and for every $25 spent on parts you get a punch, spend $250 and get $25 free stuff. The special was they were punching for labor as well as parts. That combined with my birthday gift card for $10 from the dealer and I walked away with $80 worth of chrome goodies for $20. They punched a new card for the $20 I spent too. &225 to go until I get more free parts.

A few miles away at Ted's in Alton, buy a bike and you get 10% off everything (except bikes and labor) from then on. No punch cards or gimmicks, just 10% discount in the store.

For the price the dealership will charge to change the oil and make sure nothing has rattled loose, you can buy the oil, filter, o-ring, quad ring, service manual, a nice torque wrench, and lots of beer.
