I think my Sportsers dead! opinions??
I have a '93 1200 Sportster that I bought in '98. Since then I've changed bout everything but the frame, forks and motor. Big tank, wide glide bars, Lighting Star front wheel, fatboy rear wheel, V&H StraightShots, bags, etc. Chrome everywhere!
It's been 'mistaken' for a Heritage or Lowrider by some.
It has about 80,000 miles on it and about a month ago the motor started making some BAD knocking noises. I took it to a guy that's always done work on it and today he called me with the verdict.
The rod at the bearings on the front jug is broken and it needs a complete rebuild. He can't do the job so I'm stuck with finding someone to rebuild it, finding another motor, or parting it out on ebay and buying another bike.
I really hate to let this go, but 'Miss Scarlet' has been my baby. Dollars say part it out and buy another.
Opinions??

No way in hell i would get rid of that bike! I would just get the money some way and rebuild the engine and ride again. I have a 2008 custom and i'm setting a few $$$ to the side every payday so when something like this goes wrong I'm going to rip into it and rebuild it myself. Never rebuilt one before but i'm going to give it one hell of a shot.

You need to do a little work.
First up, find a couple of shops that can do a complete rebuild and get some estimates. Get one from your local dealership too, just for fun.
Then get estimates from the same people to install a new crate motor.
Lastly, start looking for a good used motor/used bike.
When you find the right price for one of these options, you will know what to do.
