Just came out of the local Wally-world and this female truck driver out of nowhere walked up to me and asked me how old my Roadster was. I laughed and said its a 2006. I guess i'll take it a compliment towards old school looks. I am definately not a Harley Davidson historical expert but wonder did any of the 80s and younger bikes sport all black styling? I don't remember seeing any when some of my friends were driving pan and shovels. Just wondering.

 

i know the XLX's were all black in the 70's. that was one bad *** cafe h-d made.

I get ask that all the time with mine.
Twice this past weekend people came up to me and ask how old my bike was.
They look at me twice when I say 2008.
I always thank them and tell them I'm going for the old school looks.
Guess it's working.

Met up with some friends from high school and some of them thought I restored old Harley's after looking at my bike.
I made them guess what year it was. They all guessed mid late 60's mid 70's.
They were floored when I told them the year.

 

Maybe she was just using that as an icebreaker to get to talk to you.

I've had my 48 for less than a month and been asked several times if I rebuilt/restored it myself.

There were a lot of old Harleys painted with Dupont, Krylon, Rustoleum, and other popular spray cans, so I would say, yes, there was all black ones as long as they had spray paint.

 

I get asked as well but I'm consciously going for a retro look with my bikes:

 

I also am not a history buff but back in the 70's & 80's we thought Black was the only color they came in (ha ha) .Anyway that was the only color we ever used on ours back then!

 

A guy in a pub asked me the other day if my bike was old. But to his discredit, he was kinda hammered.

 

The Nightrat gets it all the time. When I told one guy that it was an 0-8, he said "Wow! 1908...that's so cool!"
