Comfort: Progressive Shocks vs. Stock
I have read pretty consistently that Progressives are a hard ride. My question is: are they harder than stock shocks in the tightest position.
I've been riding with the stock shocks in the tightest/hardest position, and I like it. Some people would say that's too hard of a ride. I would just like to get an idea re: relative hardness.
I have a 2003 883. I weigh 207 lbs. this am (probably more tonight after I consume more brew and cholesterol).

Progressive shocks are not a hard ride if you select the correct shock (Standard vs Heavy Duty) depending on your weight, and adjust the shocks correctly. If your typical rider/luggage load is >200 lbs, you want the Heavy Duty shocks, if <200 lbs, go for the Standard Duty.
Also, many people here like to "slam" their bikes with shorter shocks. Shorter shocks always equal a harsher ride due to the fact that they have less travel. Progressive shocks come in 2 different "spring rates", with the smoother, less harsh rate, being shocks 12.5" and longer.
I run the 12.5" HD and love them.
