Default If I only change the mufflers, do I need to re-map?

I'm thinking that I may just put some slip-on mufflers on the new 48. I did something similar to my Monster 620, and no problems. The Leo Vince mufflers looked good and sounded good on the Monster. Leo Vince guaranteed that if I left the air intake stock, no running problems would occur. They were right. Ran them for 10k with no issues.

So, if I leave the stock air intake on the 48, and say put the SE mufflers on, will it be OK? Anybody do that?

Mike

You don't have to remap for pipes but you do for Air breathers. Harley says you should be they just want your money. If you're planning on doing an air breather you might as well do the remap now with the new pipes.. If your bike starts running funny then go get the remap done.

Unless of course you want to gain some performance and reduce some of the heat.

Other than that, it'll run fine in a leaner than, the already lean stock state.

This is a tired old argument.
The bike is already lean from the factory.
You take away restriction that makes it slightly more lean.

Do you HAVE to? NO.
Would it be better for the bike? YES

Might as well throw on a better flowing A/C and get the full benefit of your efforts.

HD used to never recommend pipes without a remap.

They changed their recommendation in order to sell more pipes. (in my opinion).

Lean is lean. It don't take a rocket scientist to know that lean is not a good thing.

Get X14iED's and do anything that you want. The remap for 07 and newer bikes is nothing but a a money making ploy.
