ViED/XiED Install - Lot's of Pics
Here is a photo documentary of a ViED or Xied install. After all of mreed’s awesome 'how to' posts, I thought this may help some of you folks. Before getting my ViED’s in, I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into until I started the install. I discovered that it was super easy but this may help some who are on the fence about buying them.
Here is my account of the install.
I went to the cooler and opened a St. Arnold’s Stout. I then opend the package and headed to the garage. There are two plug and play devices and the first one is located behind the battery cover here. Just pop it loose from the top and it swings down.
Behind the cover, you will need to fish out the O2 sensor wires with the quick connect plug here.
Now, take your ViED/XiED and plug it in between the factory plug, making sure they snap tight and you are done with the first one.
Next, Find the same O2 wire plug on the front of the bike here.
You will need to remove the factory wire clap and follow the same steps and you are done...not even a 1 beer install

If you have been on this site for any time, you will have read about the stage 1 upgrades and needing to re-map the computer or add an aftermarket fuel management system. Some say you do, some say you don't need to but I don't want this post to turn into that discussion.
These are an alternative. They trick your computer into thinking the bike is running lean and therefore it enriches the mixture and alters the air/fuel ratio. So, you will not have a lean condition and don't need to drop $700 at the HD dealership for a re-map or $400 for a programmer.
They are about $100.

That being said. How much is a V&H Fuel Pack? I am looking into full pipes and breather in spring and wondering how much it is.

Observations,,,
The Factory 14.7 EPA compliant AFR Is very very lean.
This produced white chalky plugs on my stocker.
The X14ieD claims an AFR of 14.0
The XieD claims an AFR of 13.8
I have the X14ieD and my plugs are a nice copper color now.
With This I feel safe adding a Hi flow "Baffled" exhaust and or air filter.
I'm no expert, I just could NOT justify all that money for an ECM and dyno time.
$1,000 for a proper stage one just for a single digit Increase in HP and TQ.
what 6 or 7 at best..No Thanks,
The X14ieD's I Installed really feels good. the Bike Is smoother at all RPM's
My MPG did NOT drop probably because I'm using less throttle due to the
apparent extra power which Is really just smoother power delivery.
The Biggest change on my 08 EFI 1200R was cold start ups.
Before the X14ieD I'd start It,,
get 1400 rpms,,,then 15 to 20 seconds later a single Miss,,
It would almost Kill the engine,,followed buy 30 to 45 seconds of a unsteady Idle
ranging from 1000 to 1400 RPM's.
A steady 1,000 rpm idle would be reached at about 1.5 minutes or even 2 minutes.
After the X14ieD, Imediatly after,,,WOW
Hit the starter,,,rock stable Idle at 1400 rpm's then 20 to 30 seconds later
(45 seconds on chilly mornings) I'd have me a Tach parked on 1,000 RPM's
The needle looked welded to the Tach Face.
That one nasty Miss was all Gone!
I never noticed a "Learning curve",,there may have been one but I was so
overwhelmed by my new smooth power delivery I still say my ECM figgerd
It had died and gone to Harley heavan XD

V&H fuel pac,,about $250,,If you run a V&H pipe set and a Hi flow
breather the base settings are close,, will work.
My buddy with this set up gets a little de-cel pop but His bike runs fine.
Still to be spot on a good dyno man Is the only way and the V&H fuel
pac has Its limits.
I think the fuel pack comes with the pipe sets,,,,

The XieD is a decent inexpensive way to cool it down a bit and run better.
I had a set on my Road King and they worked fine till i went to a tuner (i dont want to get into tuner discussion here). Having recently purchased a XL1200C i will be adding the XieD to it till i decide what else to mod on it.
