Default My First Harley

Hey names Mike im from Chicago. I'll be 21 this year and have been riding the street 3 years now. I currently have an 02 yamaha r-1. If my check clears saturday i'll be purchasing my 2010 IRON 883, silver with 58 miles. I think i'm getting it for a steal for a few hundred over 6K. I ride with brothers with nightsters, buddy with a 48 and a 04 sporty with 1200 kit. I've ridden all the bikes and i love riding a harley. Nothing like the attention thrown at ya when you ride by and being such a young guy i get alot. Current plans for the IRON are 10" black risers with 24" drag bars. Does anybody have any pictures of a setup like this? Will i run into any problems going with that tall of a riser? Vance & Hines sideshots will be coming as well. The winter will probably be a nhrs 1250 kit. What should i be looking for when i pick the bike up? Being a new guy i also wonder if there are any cheap / free mods to make the bike better / quicker. I plan on taking the reflectors off for sure, also flip the mirrors.

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Mike

Hello, I have an Iron 883 and it came equipped with rear dyna super glide shocks. They are air shocks and are adjustable with a bike pump. The difference is night and day and you can get a used pair for pretty cheap. I put comfortableness in front of performance any day.

Hey Mike, Welcome! I'm new to the harley world as well since about April, but you are younger than I (I just turned 26). I have to say I think you are getting a good deal on the bike, because mine was like 8500 OTD when i got my brand new this year. I would just give it a good once over look for any fluid leaks but my guess is the bike will be fine with the little mileage it has on it as is. About your apes, you prolly will run into some problems with all the control cables reaching. Your best bet is to get familiar with the search feature of this forum. i have learned alot in a short time from this forum. Lots of good info to be found. Good luck, have fun, and i will keep an eye out for a silver iron cruising around.. haha

You're right, i can't read.. my bad.. But thats funny you live in villa park, my brother lives right off of ardmore and the train tracks between st charles and north ave. I actually live in downers grove but work in elmhurst. I think we have a good shot at running into one another..

We should get together to ride sometime, my one buddy just picked up a new 48 a week ago and my other buddy rides a buell (at least it has a harley motor)

PM me if you want to swap some info and ride sometime.

Sure those aren't air shocks off a Road King? That's what most Sportie owners use when you're talking take off air shocks.

Dan at NRHS is a great guy and you'll love dealing with him when you go with your 1250 kit. I'd highly suggest talking to him first before just getting his kit and really know where you want to go with the bike overall. Winter wouldn't be a bad time to think about heads, cams, computer reprogram etc. If you're going to have the bike down ANYWAY.
