Default 1200 to 1340 on a Sportster ?

I have a question... I was told the other day by a guy that I could step my 1200 up to a 1340. He said that all I needed was the bigger pistons, hone the cylinders and use my same rocker box covers... Is this true or is he feedin me a line of B/S !! I'd do it if it was feasible.. I love my bike and don't want to really trade it off.. but if it is possible to go to an 80ci motor, I'd LOVE it !!

He's sorta right, you'd need new 80ci jugs as you can't bore the stock 1200 jugs bigger than 1212 or 1215. The cases would have to be bored to accommodate the new jugs. You would also need bigger cams and headwork along with a programmable ignition.........................

@ xfreebirdx, so it would be a production to do this... That's what I was afraid of. He made it sound like all we had to do was swap out the jugs and pistons. Use the same cams, rods, and ignition ....

A 1250 kit would be a direct swap out..........

Hammer Performance or NRHS or Zippers or S&S can hook you up with a complete kit.

Unless you're an accomplished wrench with some machine work experience, 80CI is a bit more than an amateur garage DIY project, and likely well north of $5,000.00.

You'd be better off looking at a 1250 kit (76ci) with headwork and cams Like This.

Accomplished wrench I am not !! Nor do I have any machine experience.. The 1250 kit sounds like the ticket. !!
