How bad is the vibration on the 03 vs the newer rubber mounted engines? I love the silver/black anniversary edition, but if the vibration is bad i'll go newer.
How bad is subjective, but the rubber mounts do make a difference.
That's correct!I want a smooth ride that doesn't put my hands to sleep. I keep hearing"It's a Harley it's supposed to vibrate"! If that were true Harley wouldn't have put the rubber mounts on them! That may not be the whole reason they did it, but it was part of it!I guess I will just go take a test ride on the '03 i'm interested in and see how bad it really is.
If you have a badly vibrating 03 go have it fixed. Mine has to have the most minimal of vibrations or my tolerance is extreemly high. I can see out of my mirrors, I can ride out a tank of gas with no ill effects. It is getting tiresome the bashing the pre 04's are taking. The 04's do look like a paint shaker at idle and the I guess it smooths out. I don't know. I dont care. My 03 is just fine don't be scared go ride one and decide yourself.,
Were the 2003 anniversary edition Sportster engines counter balanced to reduce vibration? Someone advised me of this recently and I don't know if is true or not.

my hands used to go numb on my 03 sporty and I couldnt see out the mirrors past 45 mph it was an 883 and guys that had 1200's told me they could never get full use out of all the power due to the vibes.Sorry but IREALLY like the 04 and later rubber mounts as a bonus I have a 07 which is efi and I dont have the carb farts any longer... plus I can use my mirrors just 2 cents from someone who has owned both models... yes, there is still someminor vibes with the 07
