Sportster project
Just got this 2005 Sportster 1200. First motorcycle. I will be looking for many parts over the next few months and would appreciate any help. I just ordered the parts to do the cheap and easy 4" air filter.
Here are some things I would like for it:
Change the front 21" spoke to a 19" spoke
16" rear spoke
Smaller, frisco style tank or smaller stock tank with tank lift
14" apes (probably narrow Burly) with smaller risers
Lowering 10.5" shocks
Chrome lowers
Solo seat (would like a used low/slim seat like the la perera bare bones, maybe even a spring seat)
Coil and ignition relocation
Maybe the speedo relocation because I plan to run black bars and the stock speedo bracket is chrome
New grips and pegs
I will also be chopping the rear fender and painting the bike a light blue color.

Flipping the stock Custom riser/speedo doesn't work. At least, not without looking ridiculous.
Look at the riser/speedo set-up on a 1200 Low:
Risers with a seperate handlebar clamp and speedo bracket. The 883 Low used black instead of chrome. You can use a bunch of different risers and handlebars (within your cables limits). You probably know all this, since you mentioned 14" Apes.
For your lower legs, consider polishing the aluminum instead of chrome. When a rock hits the chrome, it'll crack. Once it's cracked, it'll blister and short of re-chroming, you're screwed. With polished lowers, you simply keep them polished. Once you get them to shine, maintenance is easy.
Strip off the clear-coat and polish away. All it takes is time and a little elbow grease. Polish the triple clamps while you're at it.
A can of stripper makes it a lot easier to remove the clear-coat on the lower legs:
Two buffing pads on the same arbor:

I think I am going to stick with the 21" up front. I am about to order some Metzeler me880 wide white wall. I bought a 16" Harley spoke rear and the ad said it was off a 2011 and had a 1" axle. Now I wonder if that was correct information. Didn't 2011 have 25mm axle? I hope it is right when I get it and I don't have to swap out bearings.
