Default 1st ride with passenger... review

Did 60 miles yesterday with wife

The bike was excellent, better than I thought it would be granted we aren't big people & had a total of 270 lbs. Bike had plenty of power for that but definitely strained more than just me. It had all the power we NEEDED. We did have to get up to highway speeds on route 1 & it did just fine. I never had to use all the throttle.

Ride was very comfortable as well except for inner city Salem, MA pot holes where we did max out the shocks a few times.

Still loving this bike.

So many fools who told me I was going to NEED to upgrade from the "starter" sporty... I can say definitively today they were wrong after that ride

My dad and my mom rode from Fresno, CA to Death Valley and back on an 883. Zero problems. The bike absolutely handled the hills just fine. Will it pass a sportbike on an upgrade? No.

But, that's not why we buy these bikes, is it?

A couple of years ago I was riding in the Rockies, I talked to a fellow that was touring in the mountains, 2 up, fully loaded with gear on his bone stock 883.

I think lots of guys want to add more power, but don't need to add more power.

I just hope I never get fat enough to consider a Sportster a little bike. Plenty of people have ridden cross country on 750cc motorcycles when they were considered the "big" bike.

Ha ha! Its so true!

The reality is dudes try to impress other dudes with better truck, bigger house whatever... but in the end when you FREE yourself from keeping up with the Jones you realize the Sporty has all you need PLUS lighter weight, more fun in the turns and better price (especially used)

When 750s were considered " big bikes" the national speed limit was 55mph.

Good to hear! I've never had a problem with the 883. It was good enough for 15 years of some badass riders back in the day; it's good enough for me.

I have ridden thousands of miles solo and with passengers of the lady persuasion. Anyone who complains about the lack of power needs to adjust the nut behind the handlebars.

And in my humble opinion, in today's time there is way too much dick swinging going on and not enough riding.

I once rented a 50cc scooter to tour an island we arrived at by boat. Only did about 30 miles.

be sure to post up your first 1000 mile trip for those fools to see.
