Default Clutch not disengaging completely??

1,900 miles on my new '14 Superlow 883. When the engine is OFF and in gear, when I pull in the clutch, it feels like it's still in gear when I attempt to push it.

When the engine is running and I pull in the clutch and shift into gear, I can feel a slight pull as if the clutch isn't disengaged entirely.

Is this normal or does the clutch need an adjustment?

Thanks!

I have no idea. I have the same exact symptom on my 06' 1200. I'm going to be watching this thread in hopes of a good answer. I don't understand why your new 14' sporty would be experiencing that though. If I were you, I'd call up Harley and have them take a look, considering it should still be under warranty.

In both cases it is likely that your clutch needs a minor adjustment. It is easy to do yourself, although with a new bike I would be tempted to call in at the dealer.

This is completely normal for a wet clutch, the clutch plates will drag if the motor isn't running.

When the engine is running and I pull in the clutch and shift into gear, I can feel a slight pull as if the clutch isn't disengaged entirely.

Is this normal or does the clutch need an adjustment?

This indicates the need for a clutch adjustment. Did the dealer do your 1,000 mile service? They should have adjusted it then, but many dealers short cut the work that's supposed to be done as part of the service. Most new bikes need a clutch and primary chain adjustment done after the first 1,000 miles, after that it's a 5,000 miles check list item.

Going to a dealer, waiting, etc ... when you can do it in ten minutes by yourself?

I know, I know....I haven't purchased the service manual yet. But is there a quick link that could show me in 3 mins?

Thanks!

1/2 to 1 full turn out on your clutch adjustment should do it. Not that hard. That would be the adjuster that is in the middle of the cable. you want to make it longer.

This is NOT how you adjust your clutch, this is how you adjust your clutch cable tension. The clutch adjustment is under your derby cover which you need to remove first. I would suggest a factory service manual. Clutch cable tension can be checked simply by grabbing the end of your clutch cable housing where it attatches to your clutch lever, pull the housing away from the lever it should pull outward no more than 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. If it moves more than that it requires a cable tension adjustment. This will not adjust your clutch however.

Go to you tube. search Sportster Clutch adjustment. the channel is Delboy's garage.

The guy has a video that walks you through it. I did mine by that guys video and had no issues.
