Default what is a good cam for an 05 roadking?

I am thinking of doing cams in my 05 roadking this winter. the bike already has s&s power duals, rush slipons and se air filter. I am looking for more low end to middle range, because the bike is a dog especially 2up. I am not planning on doing any other internal engine mods. Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.

Well i decided that i wanted top end, so i went with the S&S 585...couldn't be any happier. The ezstart version, chain with the new heavy springs, adjustable pushrods and hydraulic tensioner...but i also went to a '96 bore....and it was ported....getting 94 torque and 90 horses.

585: Designed for 88 to 95 CID engines with compression ratios from 9.7:1 to 10.5:1 and 100 to 124 CID engines from 9:1 to 10:1 compression. Provides massive horsepower and torque increases starting at 3000rpm and holds steady all the way to redline. 3500-6000 rpm for 88" - 103" engines and 2500-5500 for larger engines.

My friens like you wanted to staywith the'88 and he chose the S&S 551... He did upgrade to the heavier springs and adjustable pushrods...( nothing else done) and he loves his.

551: Designed for engines with 96 to 106 CID and 9:1 to 9:9 compression. This is a bolt-in cam set designed for stock or mildly modified touring bikes. 551 cams are not recommended for compression ratios of 10:1 or greater. Greatly improves low-end and midrange torque, strongest from idle-4000rpm

I went with Andrews 21, really good cam for the 88" motor, Lots of pull down low, 26 may be better? Always wondered. But I like low down pull! Went with SE255's on the 103 and could not be happier.

Just don't ever put in TOO MUCH cam. Better to error on the lighter side. You may wonder what if?, but too much destroys ridability.

Don't chase numbers or Dyno sheets, build a good, strong dependable motor for your riding style, and enjoy!

I will have to look into Andrews. Seems like a popular choice.

I really sweated on cam choice for my 2004 88" motor. Since more cubes or better heads are not in my future I went with the Andrews 21 cams.

I am pretty happy with them, they really made a nice improvement especially in lower rpm levels. I did not notice any power drop off in the upper rpm levels either, the motor pulled nice over 5k but I rarely spin it up that much.

Only other cams I have run were 203's and I liked them too but I like these 21's better.

Just put the S&S 509 in my 2006 Street glide with Vance and Hines Pro Pipe Chrome. 85 foot pounds of torque from 2500 to 5500 rpm. The torque curve is flat as a board through the whole rpm range. Just got back from Blues Bikes and BBQ. It ran fantastic.

s&s could be a good option too. Especially with the gear drive to get rid of the tensioners.
