Default Wrap baffle with steel wool?

What is the difference between wrapping your baffle with fiberglass sheet vs. steel wool? I'm guessing steel wool last's longer, but wouldn't it corrode? Steel wool make it louder also maybe? This has my curiosity up because I need to re-wrap my competition baffle when I get home. Anyone have first hand experience here?

I wouldn't use steel wool unless you want brown goo shooting out your pipes like the the morning after bean soup.

Maybe some Chorboy copper would work?

Steel wool will corrode and disintegrate very quickly I would think.

Yea, the corrosion is what baffles (bwahaha) me. Why would people do this?

IF you have any of your original wrap left. Just reuse 1/2 of the wrap.

Proven sound is much better. Folks will Fullsac baffles have been doing this for awhile now. If you are using the Fullsac set up get the Fullsac sleeve too.

Good luck.

surprised no one mentioned that steel wool would catch on fire at exhaust temperatures.
if there's any doubt, next time you have an outdoor cook out, throw some in the grill and stand back.

Ditto the above at it is the main reason steel wool does not work, but there are more,

Number one issue, catching fire.
Number two issue, tiny rust flakes everywhere you park
Number Three, not effective at modifying sound.

Steel wool was used in old two stroke dirt bike silencers and the unburned oil kept them from rusting. It won't work on your bike.

This past spring I did a ton of research on this as I needed to re-wrap the baffle in my Hooker Trapp (Hooker head pipe with Supertrapp baffle). I found all kinds of stuff on the Internet where guys used steel wool, mineral wool, and all kinds of other materials.

To keep this short, I'll just say that in the end I went to the local dirt bike/sport bike dealership and bought fiberglass baffle wrap, and wrapped it per the instructions on Supertrapp's website.
