the battery tender pigtail is connected to your battery posts.

the exposed pin is -

the recessed pin is +

probe there and you should see the voltage at the battery ( the in dash gauge is notoriously inaccurate --- BUT a change in the "normal" reading can indicate a problem...your situation, you noticed a change)

never higher than 14.8 volts...rev it up

idle voltage will vary depending on the spot lights on, high beam..honk the horn...you'll see the voltage dip

Vicsponjr,

Thank you !!!!! The other half is running errands and grabbing a voltmeter at the local auto parts store. I'll check everything out this eve when I get home from work. Thank you everyone for your input..... Pissed i didn't get the extended warranty. Dealer wanted a ridiculous amount for one year coverage. Over 1100 bux. No thank you

you can get a digital voltmeter anywhere...harbor freight, sears etc etc

( radio shack- RIP)

for your use a $10 unit will work.

ask a neighbor if they have one.

I misplaced my VM and picked up a HF $5 job. Worked great till I tried to do an ohms test on the stator. Spent 1/2 looking for/changing out 9V batteries. Finally gave up and went to home Depot and got a $17 digital. does everything i need including the diode check for the regulator. Paid for itself right there.

So I checked everything after I got in late last night and the gauge is off. Everything tested as it should. So I'll just keep an eye on it and check it every so often until I can purchase a new gauge. Thanks again for all the help everyone , it's greatly appreciated.

What did you get for readings with your volt meter? Curious as to how far the gauge was off.

You should consider checking the voltage regulator per the specs in the electrical section.

It's good, it's bad symptoms are a sign it's going to go South eventually.
